Social Security

Applicable social security agreement, need for A1 / CoC & continuation of coverage

Description

In this section, you will learn which social security system employees are subject to when they work temporarily abroad – in the area of conflict between their home country, host country, and international agreements (A1 / Certificate of Coverage). This includes both the application of the coordinated system between Switzerland and the EU/EFTA countries and the rules applicable to third countries.

We show in a practical way how the coordinated system works for Switzerland and EU/EFTA countries and in which cases the Swiss social security system continues to apply. At the same time, you will learn how to assess the situation with regard to third countries and what the consequences are. You will learn when Swiss employers are required to pay contributions abroad, what administrative obligations this entails, and what financial risks are involved.

You will also receive specific recommendations on how to structure insurance protection and coverage so that employees are optimally covered even when working abroad on a workation or temporarily remotely.
