In brief for employers

ALPS stands for Applicable Legislation Portal Switzerland. For Swiss employers, it is an important portal for processes around applicable social security legislation, especially when employees work temporarily or regularly abroad.

Definition

Through ALPS, employers can handle applications and notifications relating to applicable social security legislation. Depending on the case, this can include A1 certificates, Certificates of Coverage, postings and multi-state employment.

The portal does not replace the compliance assessment. HR still needs to understand the work pattern, destination country, duration, activity and employee status before selecting the correct process.

Typical checks

• Is the employer or employee in a Swiss social security context?
• Is the case a posting, business trip or recurring multi-state pattern?
• Is A1, CoC or another evidence type needed?
• Which period, country and activity should be covered?
• Are employee, employer and payroll data complete?
• Where will the final evidence be stored?

Difference from SV-Meldeportal and ELDA

ALPS concerns the Swiss context. The SV-Meldeportal concerns Germany. ELDA concerns Austria. All three portals are operational tools; they do not replace the substantive pre-check.
